Birthday Verse - Exodus

Ex 6:19 – The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi.  These are the clans of Levi according to their records.

Okay, so my birthday verses aren’t starting off with a bang.

The biggest excitement is that this verse is going to repeat itself later in my birthday verse list.

But for now.

The preface to this verse goes like this.   The Lord is talking directly to Moses and telling him that He is going to free his people from the Pharoah.  In 12 verse he tells him 3 times.  Moses obviously is stalling.  One of his excuses is that he stutters.  The Lord doesn’t even address this shortcoming but repeats himself.  Moses is trying to tell his people about this proclamation from the Lord to the Israelites, but they do not listen because they are miserable.  So, Moses says it’s a waste of time to talk to the Pharaoh because his own people won’t listen.

Apparently, the Lord is going to get pretty strong handed about this because he then proceeds to name the families that are under Moses’ control. The list sprinkles in some of their responsibilities and occasionally how long the head of the family lived.

What do I see in this?  First God has an eye for detail.  We need to take care to identify who we are talking to, who we are talking about, and what they are concerned with.  We should always consider a person’s background when approaching sensitive subjects.  Second, God is persistent.  He has all the time in the world.  We don’t.  We need to have that attitude about our relations and our work.  Stick to it and don’t procrastinate.
