Satan hunts the hurting

If you feel that you are being attacked, I want to point out three things.

First, you have an enemy.  Others may look at you and scoff at your suffering.  You may doubt yourself and the suffering that you’re enduring.  Attacks are real. The attacker is real.  Ephesians 6:12 tells us “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”  While this is itself is probably not all that comforting, it provides you with a foundation that you have to do something about it.

Second, you are not alone.  Your suffering might increase because you think you’re the only one suffering from whatever your ailment might be.  You might also believe that no-one will understand you or there is no-one that can help. 1 Peter 5:8-9 tells us “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”  Having a prayer partner, a small group, a pastor will give you a basis for help and comfort.  Ultimately, having Jesus on your side ensures that regardless of your number of friends, you can find someone that will listen.  If you feel alone, stop.  Think. Listen.  Recall someone or anyone that may have an ear to listen.  Hey, they might not be the right person, but reaching out to anyone will start you on the path towards the right one.

The pain will end.  Just like an aspirin will help a tooth ache, a partner will help alleviate pain and despair.   1 Peter 5:10 tells us “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”  I can’t guarantee that the pain will be removed immediately, but it will be removed.  You can take the first step.  Someone will find you to help in restoration and support.
