The MWT - People’s attitudes

As we travel across the United States, I note the differences in peoples attitudes. I also hear the comments about “other people” during discussions.

Point 1 - the drivers are different in Oklahoma and New Mexico. I perceive that they obey the traffic laws with regularity, they are courteous to other drivers, and they are courteous to walkers.

Point 2 - the drivers don’t have a hysterical sense of urgency to get wherever they are going. There are a minimum number of drivers that ride the bumper of the driver in front of them. They aren’t weaving in and out of traffic, and they use the right lane when they aren’t passing.

Point 3 - there are more smiles per capita out here and more peeps that offer a “good morning” and more casual conversations with a stranger.

It makes me stop and reassess what the urgency is in my life. Do I need to hustle for everything? Or only the important things? Do I feel stressed about timetables or things to do?

My prayer for all those that surround me is that we stop, breath and enjoy the situation as it is. Ignore the schedule for just a moment and regain our bearings. Ground ourselves in grace and enjoy the pleasures of the moment around us.
