You Are My Joy
I was listening to a David Crowder song recently where he repeated “you are my joy”. Got me to thinking (I hear you, what doesn’t get me thinking?). Where is the joy in my life? I am getting chronologically advanced (translation, I’m old) and it seems that the number of complaints has increased in my life compared to my joys. Why? Sure, I’ve got more aches and pains, but the raw quantity of joy is increasing much faster.
I was sipping my coffee looking out the back window and watched a farmer baling hay (definitely wasn’t hay, but I’m trying to learn). I was mesmerized by the continuous movement of the tractor down a long row and then suddenly he would spin a circle and then return to the row. Was he entertaining himself? Or just picking up some remnants? Every so often the back of the machine would open and out drops a bale. I realized I was standing there with a smile on my face, thoroughly entertained by the task at hand.
There is the joy in my life, the little things that occur that we miss with our busyness. When Crowder sings “you are my joy” I sense that God is supplying me with distractions that allow me to relax, regather and continue through the minor aches and pains of life.
Take a moment and find your momentary joy, thank God, and move on.
