MWT - What Do I Miss? (Part 2)
Camaraderie. Being on the road reduces the amount of time I have to interact with friends, family and workmates. Serious and useful conversations are hard to come by due to time constraints, time differences and connectivity issues. I’m pondering the definition of a friend as I look at who interfaces with me and works to stay in contact. I look at the effort I take to stay in touch and find that the inconveniences appear to hamper my commitment. I also find that I took interactions with kids and grandkids for granted. I miss some of the silly times, and chances to catch up.
But on the flip side, Lisa and I have increased our serious and not-so-serious communications. Yes, spending 23 and ½ hours a day in close contact does increase some of the irritations, but we have more short conversations than we have in recent times. We are rediscovering each other’s likes and dislikes, level of knowledge, and our abilities to increase awareness on various subjects. Long hours in the truck have given us a chance to learn through listening to podcast or the Beatles channel. We continually use the interweb to learn about facts or locations that we see and share our discoveries.
